Internships

The Bohannon Group is committed to the success of it's internship.

When considering where a college internship should be completed - first take a look at some of the company's statistics.  In the 2008-09 awards year, the Bohannon Group had the most Top 20 interns in the company.  The Bohannon Group also had the most conversions in all of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 awards year.  In 2007, the Bohannon Group was excited to have the #1 Intern in the whole NMFN in Gabe Christenson and the #10 intern in 2009 in Stefan Smith.

Our success is due to our commitment to management and the strength in our team.  This is shown in the 2008-09 awards year with Brent Putz being named the #2 College Unit Director and Gabe Christenson being ranked #10 holding the same management contract.  Additionally, throughout the Bohannon Group our internship program has been represented by various other top interns, CUDs and District and Network Office leaders as well as rankings encompassing the College Program.

The Bohannon Group also has a great history in receiving the prestigous Mike Gish Award - with Mike Brownlow and Gabe Christenson named winners in the 2008-09 awards year; Mike Leverty in the 2004-05 awards year; and Bob Stefani and Philip Reiter recipients in the 2005-06 awards year.

Today 50% of the Top 30 producers in the Bohannon Group are former interns and 41% of all of the Bohannon Agency are former interns.

An Opportunity for Personal and Professional Development

Internships are about personal and professional development. They are meant to enhance your college education with real-life business experience that can help further your career. A Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Internship is demanding yet rewarding. Your local Network office provides the tools, resources and training necessary to help you discover and build your markets to develop a successful practice as a financial representative intern.

As full-time college students, interns in the Network generally work 15 to 20 hours per week developing business- and client-building skills. In most aspects, our interns follow the same process for establishing their careers as our financial representatives by:

  • Meeting with clients
  • Analyzing clients’ situations
  • Making recommendations
  • Providing on-going service

Our internship program is more about developing people than selling products. You will learn what it takes to be successful, while sharpening your skills in communications and marketing to help build personal and professional self-confidence. You will also discover the rewards that come from helping others as you bring a full-service approach to your clients’ needs and provide guidance and solutions that will have a positive impact on families and businesses for years to come.
